Hall Sisters

Sisters Mary Louise Hall (b. 1931), Elaine Hall (b. 1959), and Doris Mooney, were born in Gee’s Bend into a family of celebrated Quiltmakers. The three sisters were raised by their mother Nell Hall Williams (1933– 2021), a prolific Quiltmaker, known for her dynamic Bricklayer quilts. Influenced by their mother's quilt making, the sisters have long collaborated on quilts with one another. Embracing communal modes of quilt making, and engaging with the legacy of intergenerational and familial quilting, the sisters are known for their elaborate patterns and bold use of color.
